NACTAL NIGERIA MOVES TO STRENGTHEN ITS DATA GATHERING, SHARING AND PROTECTION SYSTEM.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons Civil Society Network, NACTAL Nigeria, has taken significant steps to strengthen its data collection, reporting, sharing, and protection systems as part of efforts to improve the country’s response to human trafficking and enhance evidence-based interventions.

This commitment was reaffirmed during a three-day Learning Lab on Monitoring and Evaluation and the Use of National Reporting and Data Collection Tools for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), held at Golden Dabis Hotel in Keffi, Nasarawa State. The event which was supported by FIAP and brought together NACTAL members from all 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), provided a platform for participants to internally evaluate, review, and realign NACTAL Nigeria’s approaches and interventions to ensure they effectively respond to national indicators and reporting templates.

The three-day engagement was designed to achieve key milestones, including improving the quality and consistency of data collection and reporting on NACTAL Nigeria’s interventions nationwide, establishing a harmonized reporting calendar and data flow process, and developing common reporting templates for use across all state chapters. The Learning Lab also sought to strengthen state-level commitment to timely and regular reporting ahead of the 2026 United States Department of State Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report cycle.

Demonstrating its readiness to ensure that Nigeria’s TIPSOM response efforts are seen and recognised globally, the National President of NACTAL Abdulganiyu Abubakar presented copies of the outcomes of the review of the 2025 United States Department of State TIP Report to the FIAP Team Leader, members of the NACTAL Board of Trustees, and the Lead of the Team of Experts.

The FIAP Team Leader commended the leadership of NACTAL Nigeria for the initiative and reaffirmed FIAP’s commitment to sustaining the partnership.

NACTAL Nigeria is expected to officially launch and present the outcomes of the review to TIPSOM partners in the coming months.
